Fostering Self-Love: A Sexual Health Valentine’s Guide

This Valentine’s Day, remember that your most important relationship is the one you have with yourself. Self-love means setting healthy boundaries, speaking kindly to yourself, and making choices that protect your wellbeing.

Prioritising your sexual, mental, and physical health builds confidence and stronger relationships. Clear communication, mutual consent, and respecting your right to say yes or no are essential for safe and fulfilling intimacy.

Safer sexual activity is an act of self-care. Use condoms and lubricant for protection and comfort, plan regular STI and HIV testing, and stay informed about PrEP, PEP (within 72 hours after possible exposure), and emergency contraception. Don’t forget aftercare: hydrate, urinate after sex to reduce infection risk, and clean gently using mild, unscented products.

As part of spreading this message, we were on outreach on 13th February at the University of Malta with MMSA, distributing condoms and free sexual health materials to university students. We also joined the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Directorate’s “Love Yourself” Campaign on 16th February in Valletta, in front of Parliament, continuing to raise awareness about self-love and safer sexual health. Love yourself enough to protect your health.
