Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer is cancer of the ovaries. The ovaries are two small oval-shaped organs in the pelvis that store a person’s (typical female sex organs) supply of eggs.

Common symptoms of ovarian cancer include:

  • feeling constantly bloated
  • a swollen tummy
  • discomfort in your tummy or pelvic area
  • feeling full quickly when eating
  • needing to pee more often than usual

The symptoms are not always easy to recognise because they are similar to those of some more common conditions.

Your doctor may ask for further investigations such as blood tests, a biopsy, transvaginal ultrasounds, CT-scans and MRI.

Your doctor will discuss potential treatment with you. Treatment may include:

  • Removal of the Fallopian tubes and ovaries
  • Chemotherapy
