Yes, sex toys are safe if they are used responsibly and kept clean. Sex toys can pass on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). These infections can be passed on through blood and semen contact.
How to avoid STIs or other infections:
- It is important to read the manual and follow the instructions carefully especially if batteries are required in the toy. Keep the sex toys clean-wash them with soap and water with every use and for every sexual partner.
- Cover the penetrative toys with a condom each time they are used.
- Sex toys should also be cleaned well in between use on different parts of the body, such as the mouth, vagina and anus.
- Do not share sex toys.
- If you have different set of sex toys, clean them well every time for every partner.
- Check sex toys regularly for any scratches or breaks in the surface material where germs could be present and spread, as this can increase the risk of infection.
